Agentic AI – Harnessing the Power of Autonomous Artificial Intelligence

When ChatGPT emerged, what got people excited? Wow, it describes the Applebee’s menu in the style of William Shakespeare!

But pretty quickly, we got over the silly games – and started dreaming about what AI could actually accomplish.

In our personal lives, that might look like, plan my 2-week vacation to Italy. But for businesses, it meant, Automate our client onboarding process with voice interactions and call routing.

Early large language models (LLMs), while impressive, couldn’t quite do those sorts of tasks.

Now, agentic AI systems can

As an Intelisys Sales Partner, this stage in AI development gives you a wonderful opportunity. Intelisys suppliers are already offering agent-based AI solutions, and customer interest is quickly growing.

It’s time for you to learn more about agentic AI.

What Is Agentic AI?

The term “Agentic AI” refers to AI systems that act autonomously to solve problems and complete tasks. These systems represent an important new frontier in the world of artificial intelligence – allowing organizations to derive even more value from their investments in AI.

Traditional AI helps humans quickly analyze data. Then, “generative AI” (like ChatGPT) came along, creating output like text, images, videos, and code for human users.

Now, agentic AI represents the next stage of development: actually doing complex tasks, start to finish.

Agentic AI gains its autonomy by tapping an ecosystem of AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML). Together, these capabilities team up with external tools to produce an autonomous system.

Unlike previous iterations of AI, agentic AI can be used to:

  • Plan and execute complex tasks
  • Automate entire workflows
  • Make business decisions

In other words, agentic AI is more than a tool. It’s an independent agent that can be put to work on behalf of an organization.

Benefits – Why AI Agents Represent Such a Major Breakthrough

Agentic AI isn’t just another small step in the steady progress of AI technology. It’s a transformational breakthrough, giving organizations the true value they’ve long been seeking from AI.

Let’s take a look at the business case for agentic AI adoption.

Specialization

AI agents are designed to complete granular tasks. Want a system to retrieve client data… or create voice messages… or monitor a specific system? Well, you can. The idea here is to train the AI model to complete the exact work that the organization needs.

Scalability

Organizations can deploy additional AI agents to complete new tasks as they arise. And the systems are programmed for continuous learning – so as the organization grows, the AI should get better.

Accuracy

Agentic AI systems can pull data from a variety of sources within an organization – including emails, databases, and CRMs – and then discern which information is most accurate. This makes them better at avoiding the costly “hallucinations” that plagued early LLMs.

Perfect for AI-Human Collaboration

As impressive as they are, AI agents aren’t replacing human workers. But they are augmenting human-led workflows. By automating repetitive tasks, agentic AI frees humans up to focus on higher-level work.

Agentic AI Use Cases Across Industries

Agentic AI has a wide spectrum of potential use cases – remember, its aptness for specialization is one of its main benefits.

That said, certain use cases will be especially valuable to organizations across industries.

Prominent Agentic AI use cases include:

  • Workflow automation. AI agents take autonomous action to meet business objectives, and they can even adjust their workflows in response to real-time data – eliminating the need for humans to engage in repetitive tasks.
  • Customer experience. An agentic AI system can provide chat, voice interactions, call routing, and other CX features – improving an organization’s customer service while simultaneously increasing efficiency.
  • IT Operations (ITOps). By monitoring data from across an organization’s IT infrastructure and responding to triggering events, agentic AI can be a vital tool for cybersecurity and general IT optimization.

Onboarding Guide: Help Customers Implement Agentic AI

Agentic AI is no longer a dream for the future. It’s here – and the Intelisys catalog includes offerings from across the AI maturity curve.

Some customers might want out-of-the-box LLMs. Others could prefer to train fully customizable models. The choice will be based on their specific goals and workflows.

Your job is to act as a consultant every step of the way – determining which agentic AI solution is right for them, and then guiding them through implementation.

Sales Partners – Here’s How to Lead the Agentic AI Conversation

When discussing agentic AI with customers, your first task is to identify pain points and business objectives.

Start by finding stakeholders within the organization. Then, ask some basic discovery questions:

  • What repetitive tasks would you benefit from automating?
  • Which workflows would you most like to optimize?
  • Where would you like your workforce to be more efficient?
  • Where does your data reside, and is it ready for AI integration?

These broad questions will give you a general idea of business functions and workflows the customer might address with agentic AI.

From there, you need to get more specific – learning about the exact outcomes the organization is seeking. Ask about the key performance indicators (KPIs) they’d like to track and the return on investment (ROI) they’d like to see from their AI agents.

Remember not to lead with a specific solution or supplier, and avoid tech jargon as much as you can.

Also, try not to set unrealistic explanations by casting agentic AI as a “magic bullet.” These solutions represent a remarkable advancement from earlier AI models – but they can’t instantly solve for every paint point or replace teams of human employees. You can manage customer expectations by keeping the scope of the initial use case well-defined.

Once a customer shows interest, ask to start with a workshop or an AI readiness assessment.

Implementation Tips

To effectively guide your customers through the implementation of an agentic AI solution, keep the following points in mind:

  • Start with a small, specific use case. This allows the customer to get an immediate sense of what agentic AI can realistically be expected to accomplish.
  • Ask about the quality of the organization’s data. AI agents are most effective when they train on organized, reliable information.
  • Emphasize security and data governance. The use of AI – including agentic AI – often produces new security vulnerabilities. If the organization doesn’t have an AI policy in place for employees, they should institute one before deploying the agentic AI solution.
  • Advocate cross-functional collaboration. Agentic AI can be used for a lot more than just IT. The technology has use cases across business units – and so different teams should be collaborating from the start.
  • Prioritize user training. For organizations to effectively leverage agentic AI (while limiting the risk of data loss), they need employees to understand the systems.
  • Focus on integration. AI agents are most effective when they’re fully integrated with other software, databases, and tech solutions.
  • Prepare for long-term use. Implementing agentic AI is not a one-off project. The goal is to normalize the use of a revolutionary technology that can assist with business operations from here on out.

Learn More About AI

Agentic AI isn’t just a “trend.” It represents a permanent shift in how organizations leverage artificial intelligence. That’s why Gartner predicts that 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI by 2028.
