If you missed the November SE [Webinar](https://bit.ly/112022SEWebinarOnDemand), Jamal and [Bob Faber](https://www.linkedin.com/in/bob-faber-048ab8/) discussed some unique IoT solutions that were quickly becoming potential options for customers that we’re looking to solve critical challenges.  In the first of this two-part blog series, Jamal shares his top five successful solutions in 2022 that will continue to grow in 2023. - **Exciting Innovations in the Transportation Industry *** The Federal government has led the trucking industry to be more integrated and monitored. Using ELD (“Electronic Logging Device”) as a fleet management provider, companies can now see engine wear, fuel consumption, tire wear, and more based on the trucks’ OBD-II diagnostics. However, most systems only sometimes communicate effectively with the cargo. That brings us to IoT asset management, where monitors can track the internal temperature in the trailer or monitor the viability of fresh produce. With remote control, companies now have the option to clean the air remotely, extending the life of fresh produce and foods. - ***Healthcare Continues to Adapt to Modern Technologies *** Let’s talk about healthcare. Over the past year, we have seen an increase in IoT devices used in hospitals and clinics worldwide. The addition of [wearables](https://www.conurets.com/top-10-wearable-iot-devices-in-2022/) for monitoring and diagnosing general health has been immense.  In the wake of the Pandemic, devices like thermal sensors and [remote patient monitoring](https://telehealth.hhs.gov/providers/preparing-patients-for-telehealth/telehealth-and-remote-patient-monitoring/) have been the reason we have seen a significant improvement in at-home medicine. However, if you have stayed in a hospital recently, you will notice that with staff shortages, they are now using more [robotics](https://www.aamc.org/news-insights/robots-make-rounds). This includes cleaning rooms and sending meals to patients. If medical facilities continue to struggle with staff shortages, this will grow in 2023. - ***Restaurants and Retail are Seeing Success due to IoT and Wireless Bots*** The QSR (“Quick Serve Restaurant”) industry has been trying to follow in the footsteps of the “[Chick-fil-A model](https://www.chick-fil-a.com/stories/inside-chick-fil-a/behind-the-scenes-of-the-chick-fil-a-drive-thru).” This has been daunting since most have never built their drive-thru to meet high demand.  QSRs have improved efficiency by deploying enhanced outdoor wireless and utilizing tablets for better and more effective line management. Large “Big Box” retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have had issues securing curbside pickup since they have not consistently managed their curbside pickup orders. Throughout 2022, we saw these retailers deploy updated systems such as cameras to monitor designated parking spaces for vehicles with license plates and colors matching customers’ descriptions. We expect this [trend](https://www.retaildive.com/news/the-rise-of-curbside-pickup-best-practices-for-retailers/599931/) to continue into 2023. - ***Safer Environments in Education by Using Simple Devices  *** [Smart devices](https://imaginenext.ingrammicro.com/iot/iot-in-education-101-making-campuses-and-students-smarter) were implemented in education to monitor and regulate the environment for a safer learning environment. Sensors continue to be installed on campuses to monitor smoking, temperatures, and other serious activities, such as gunshots and ammonia. This allows the remote management team to change the classroom temperature to call the police in an active shooter event.  Local schools have added smart lighting to the school to reduce overall power usage. In theory this should free up capital normally applied to the energy bill to be used in the classroom. - ***Manufacturing Made Waves in 2022 *** A Deloitte [study](https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2022/09/28/how-iot-is-transforming-the-manufacturing-industry/?sh=1e7c6d6875d7) shows more than 86 percent of survey respondents believe smart factory initiatives will be the main driver of manufacturing competitiveness over the next five years, though only 51 percent are making or have made investments.  Monitoring production in real-time is possible with IoT solutions and camera analytics. Having sensors that monitor motion, vibrations, and other critical factors is vital. Camera analytics can monitor employees to maintain a safe work environment. This ensures that employees don’t arrive at work sleepy or ill, which could be detrimental to the company.  As a result, Jamal expects this industry to adapt more to IoT technologies in 2023.  Here’s the bottom line: Now is the time to reach out to customers in healthcare, retail/restaurant, manufacturing, and transportation and chat with them about these trends. Jamal believes these industries can benefit most from IoT since they are time- and performance-sensitive.  Not sure where to start?
